Age UK Advice Outcomes Resource

An Overview

The Age UK Advice Outcomes Resource has been developed to assist local Age Concern and Age UK organisations to gather and analyse information about the outcomes they achieve for the clients of their Information and Advice services.

There are a variety of reasons why it can be important to collect advice outcomes information. The most significant are:

The resource consists of the following sections:
We recommend that you read through the short sections 1 and 2 before looking at the other sections as this will aid you in deciding which of the resources are relevant to your needs.

1. An introduction to the concepts and issues relating to advice outcomes.

2. An explanation of how the resource could be used in different types of Age Concern/Age UK I&A services.

3. Guidance on how to capture information to produce comprehensive data on the practical gains achieved for clients.

4. A questionnaire that has been developed for capturing detailed information from a sample of clients

…including guidance on using the questionnaire, three versions of the questionnaire (relating to different aspects of advice provision), and additional questions that can be included in the questionnaire.

5. Guidance on how to produce case studies from the information gathered on the questionnaires.

6. Examples of other approaches that can be taken to gathering advice outcomes and that can also be used to test/validate the results of the questionnaires (this is called triangulation).

7. Tools that can be used to collate and analyse the information gathered from clients about the outcomes they have received.

Included here are also two prefilled examples to give you an idea of the sort of data you will get from using the tools.

8. An overview of the Age UK approach

Describing the reasoning behind the decisions made and the lessons from piloting the tools.

Local Age Concern and Age UK organisations who need additional support using this resource should contact their Information and Advice Development Adviser.

Age UK will be evaluating the take up and response to the resource from local Age Concerns/Age UKs. It is planned that the resource will be reviewed and where necessary updated on an annual basis.
