Advice Sector Workforce

In this section:

Building the younger generation of advisers

The ASA conducted a scoping project to assess the sustainability of the adviser workforce. The aim was to identify the trends throughout the sector relating to the recruitment, training and ultimately the retention of advisers and consider the motivation for someone wanting to get into advice work. This area of work can lead to a very rewarding career but with the overarching concerns over job security, it is not always considered an attractive career path to take. It is therefore imperative to consider the challenges and mistakes that the industry is/has been faced with.

The report looks at the key challenges to the sustainability of the advice sector workforce being the issues of funding, recruitment of trained advisers, retention and a lack of a clear career path. It also discusses what is working well and how we can make the adviser workforce more sustainable in the future and uses the findings to propose recommendations for the advice sector’s next steps.
