CONFERENCE POSTPONED
Due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 in the UK and the risks associated with holding large gatherings at the moment we have decided to postpone our conference that would have taken place on the 1 and 2 of April 2020 in Manchester.
We are planning on rescheduling the event to be held later on in the year. Further updates will be made as and when information is available.

Conference overview
Our conference will be an engaging and exciting event for advice services, voluntary organisations, funders and sector stakeholders which will both challenge accepted thinking and be a place to share key ideas on the future of social welfare advice in England and Wales. The conference will reflect on our 40-year history to think forward to the new challenges and experiences facing the sector. We will explore ways we can work together to tackle the social injustices faced by our clients and others in the community.
The two-day event will consist of plenary talks and breakout workshops. We are delighted to be holding the event in Manchester and aim to shine a spotlight on the local advice sector.

Free legal advice clinic for charities
Russell-Cooke solicitors will be running a free legal advice clinic for charities at our conference. Slots will be 20-30 minutes long and can cover governance or commercial matters.

Good Will & Good Words: 100 word story writing competition
To mark ASA’s 40th anniversary, we are holding a short story writing competition, inviting you to share a story of advice giving in around 100 words.
We want to share your stories at our conference, to celebrate the hard work and achievements of those who work tirelessly in the advice sector to help their clients gain access to justice.
Suggestions of what you could write about include:
- A client that stood out to you
- An advice giving success story
- A time you felt particularly proud of your work
- The reasons why you work in the advice sector
- How your clients have motivated and inspired you
Submissions will be judged by Sue James, Hammersmith and Fulham Law Centre and Carol Storer, Legal Action Group. The winners will be announced at the conference.
