Advice Services Alliance and University House are proud to announce the 21 organisations and four individuals shortlisted in the first ever awards dedicated solely to celebrating the provision of free legal advice to Londoners.
The Advising Londoners Awards shortlist reflects the full scope of legal support available to different communities across the capital’s 32 boroughs.

Finalists in eight award categories include:
- Greenwich Advice Hubs, an outreach project which takes free, expert social justice advice, into the heart of communities in the borough
- Positive East, which supports people in north-east London living with HIV to resolve legal problems so they can live full and healthy lives
- Quaker Social Action’s Down to Earth project, which helps alleviate funeral poverty and has seen a 96% increase in demand for services in the last two years.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 18 November.
Eddie Coppinger, CEO of University House, says: ‘We are delighted with the response to these unique awards, which celebrate the life-changing work done by the tapestry of free legal advice providers across London. The judges had some difficult decisions to make in arriving at a shortlist, but the finalists truly provide a snapshot of the range of organisations that have grown up in response to the needs of the rich and diverse communities that make our capital so special. Their expert advice and support is needed now more than ever, so these awards could not be more timely.’
As well as the eight award categories listed below, the judges will also be making an award named in honour of former barrister Charles Bennett who has been volunteering at University House for more than four decades. (There is no shortlist for this award.)
