Announcements

What are the health outcomes of good advice?

The ASA is delighted to announce our new research project, looking at the health impacts of advice giving.

A roundtable at the Barings Foundation in July 2014 lead to a discussion of what could be done to demonstrate to health commissioners and Health and Wellbeing Boards that advice (of the non health variety) can indeed be good for you. Together with the Low Commission, the ASA submitted a proposal to pull the existing research and practice together and we were lucky enough to have supported by the Future Advice Funders Forum. We have now started the work, collating the evidence base for the health impacts of advice and identifying the projects across the country where advice is delivered in a health setting. https://www.lowcommission.org.uk/

If you have any examples of work you think would be useful to include, please do get in touch and let us know (info@asauk.org.uk).

The research is being undertaken by Andy Parkinson at Consilium Research https://www.consiliumresearch.co.uk/ and will be overseen by a steering group of people from either advice or health backgrounds.

This is a very exciting project which links very closely with current debates about how to better manage in-patient admissions and discharges and waiting lists for GPs in order to ease the pressure on NHS services. We are working to a very short timescale and will produce a report by the end of March 2015. Further announcements will be made as we progress.
